MORONG, Bataan – The municipality of Morong is preparing a hero’s welcome to one of the 44 members of the PNP Special Action Force killed in action, Sunday in Mamasapano, Maguindanao. Subject of the tribute is PO3 John Llyod Sumbilla, 33, of Barangay Poblacion. Sumbilla reportedly a native of Samar trained at the SAF camp in Morong and married 26-year old Rochelle Vizmanos, a public school teacher at the Aeta elementary school in Kanawan, this town.
Morong Mayor Jorge Estanislao said the municipality has prepared a hero’s welcome for Sumbilla and issued this message: “A warm hero’s welcome to PO3 John Llyod Sumbilla for your bravery and courage. We in Morong will always show our respect to your bravery. We honor you as our town hero. Thank you for saving many more lives in the future. We salute you! To all your family, especially your wife, may our Lord God comfort you during this difficult time.”
The Philippine flag in front of the Morong municipal hall was placed at half-mast. Rochelle and John Llyod got married in a civil ceremony September 1, 2014 and exchanged vows in a church wedding also in Morong on December 23 of same year, relatives said.
Rochelle is five months pregnant to their first child. An aunt said her niece called and told her husband that their baby is a girl based on ultrasound test result. Rochelle reportedly informed her husband of the good news Saturday evening or the night before the encounter where they were slain by members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Bangsa Islamic Freedom Fighters.
“Mabait si Jeff (Sumbilla), walang kibo at mapagregalo ng cake noong nanliligaw sa apo ko,” said 82-year old Anacleta Vizmanos. The old woman took care of Rochelle since she was a small girl. The Sumbilla couple lives with the old woman and Rochelle’s parents in Barangay Poblacion. Sumbilla’s remains are expected to be brought home to Morong, Saturday after the necrological rites in Camp Bagong Diwa.
