MORONG, Bataan – A private firm is scheduled to build a 5 megawatt solar power plant in this 3rd-class municipality, the local chief executive here confirmed recently.
“We recently had a meeting with Spark executives and they told me that they have already bought a 7-hectare property in Barangay Sabang,” Mayor Jorge Estanislao told Bataan newsmen.
Peninsula Electric Cooperative (PENELCO) will still be the distributor of the electricity that will be generated from the said solar power plant.
Morong is also the home of the mothballed Bataan Nuclear Power Plant, the Bataan Refugee Processing Center now called the Bataan Technology Park.
In March 1997, the whole town of Morong was proclaimed as Morong Special Economic Zone.
Meanwhile in Hermosa town, a private firm also bought a huge property near the Hermosa Economic Zone to build a solar power plant, former Bataan congressman and Bases Conversion Development Authority Chairman Felicito Payumo told this reporter.
